Overview
Greenview was engaged to deliver building services engineering for the Epping Surgery Centre, a new ophthalmic surgical facility located at 32–34 Boronia Avenue, Epping. The project was developed with AVA Architects and provides ophthalmologists in Sydney's north-west with a purpose-built facility for surgical procedures.
Specialist surgical centres for ophthalmology typically combine day surgery suites with consulting and support facilities, each with distinct building services requirements that need to be engineered to the standards applicable to a Class 9a healthcare building.
The challenge
Ophthalmic surgery involves highly precise procedures that place specific demands on the clinical environment. Temperature and humidity control, appropriate lighting design for consulting and surgical spaces, medical gas provisions and infection control standards all factor into the building services brief. Designing to these requirements within the spatial constraints of a suburban surgical centre requires close coordination between the engineering team and the architect responsible for the clinical layout.
Greenview's approach
Greenview worked closely with AVA Architects to ensure the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems were designed specifically for the clinical requirements of an ophthalmic surgery centre. All disciplines were developed within Greenview's coordinated REVIT model, enabling the team to resolve services coordination within the facility before construction commenced.
