Greenview provided structural, civil and hydraulic engineering for Acqua Apartments, a residential apartment development at 5–7 Burke Road, Cronulla. Comprising 17 apartments, the project was delivered in collaboration with Vic Lake Architects and is located close to Cronulla Beach in Sydney's south.
As the multi-residential engineer on the project, Greenview's scope covered three disciplines: structural engineering, civil engineering including stormwater, and hydraulic services. Acqua Apartments reflects Greenview's capability across the structural and civil side of multi-residential development, complemented by hydraulic services for a complete building infrastructure solution.
The challenge
Residential apartment development in coastal locations like Cronulla introduces specific engineering requirements. Structural design must account for coastal exposure conditions including wind loading and the corrosion protection requirements that apply to structural and hydraulic elements in a marine environment. Civil and stormwater design must address the drainage constraints of a beachside location. Coordinating structural, civil and hydraulic engineering from the same practice means these interconnected considerations are resolved together rather than through separate consultants working in isolation.
Greenview's approach
Greenview's structural, civil and hydraulic engineers worked in a coordinated environment, developing all three disciplines in parallel against Vic Lake Architects' architectural documentation. The structural scheme was developed with coastal exposure requirements built in from the outset. Stormwater and civil design were coordinated with the structural substructure to ensure that drainage solutions were compatible with the building's foundation approach.
