Overview
Greenview was engaged to provide building services engineering for a new teaching facility at Blacktown Nagle College. The project involved the delivery of a purpose-built educational space in Western Sydney, NSW, with Greenview working alongside DTA Architects across the electrical, mechanical and energy compliance disciplines.
The new facility adds dedicated teaching capacity to an established school environment, requiring building services engineering that would integrate appropriately with the existing campus.
The challenge
New teaching facilities at established schools must meet current National Construction Code (NCC) standards while fitting within the existing campus context. The energy efficiency requirements under Section J of the NCC require careful attention during the design phase, particularly for mechanical HVAC systems, which represent a significant proportion of a school building's ongoing energy use. Getting these systems right from the start avoids costly modifications post-construction.
Greenview's approach
Greenview's electrical and mechanical design was developed in coordination with DTA Architects, with the team working from the coordinated REVIT model to ensure services were properly resolved before documentation was finalised. The Section J energy compliance report was developed in tandem with the HVAC and electrical design, ensuring the building met the energy efficiency requirements of Part J of the National Construction Code (NCC) as an integrated outcome.
Services delivered
- Mechanical
HVAC design for the new teaching spaces, delivering year-round comfort in a Western Sydney climate.
- Electrical
Lighting, power and building services design for the new facility.
- ESD / Section J
Energy efficiency compliance report in accordance with Part J of the National Construction Code (NCC).
Outcome
The completed teaching facility provides Nagle College with additional, purpose-built educational space that meets current NCC standards.
Greenview's coordinated approach to the building services and energy compliance scope ensured the project team had a clear, consistent set of documentation to take through to construction.
