Overview
Greenview was engaged to provide engineering services for an extension to the operations depot of Blacktown City Council at Station Street, Rooty Hill. The project delivered additional facility capacity for one of Western Sydney's largest local government areas, incorporating new modern office space alongside the existing depot infrastructure.
Working alongside Nordon Jago, Greenview's scope covered structural engineering, hydrant fire system design, stormwater drainage design and a Section J energy compliance report — a focused but complete scope for a government facility extension in NSW.
The challenge
Council depot facilities serve as operational hubs for local government. They need to be functional, durable and cost-effective. When extending an existing depot with new office accommodation, the engineering scope must address both the hard infrastructure requirements (structural, stormwater, fire hydrant systems) and the amenity requirements of the office environment. Section J compliance is mandatory for new office space and must be addressed through the building services design, particularly HVAC and glazing performance.
Greenview's approach
Greenview's structural design addressed the requirements of the new office addition in relation to the existing depot structure, ensuring the extension was designed for long-term performance in an operational government facility environment. The stormwater design accounted for the increased impervious area resulting from the extension. Hydrant design was coordinated with the structural and civil work, and the Section J report was developed to demonstrate NCC Part J compliance for the new office component.
Services delivered
- Structural
Structural engineering for the depot extension and new office addition.
- Civil
