Overview
Greenview provided multi-discipline engineering services for the new Singleton Art & Cultural Centre, commissioned by Singleton Council as a landmark community facility in Queen Street, Singleton. The project involved the design of a new dedicated arts and cultural venue in the Hunter Valley, with Greenview working alongside BKA Architecture across civil, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and energy compliance disciplines.
As a public sector engineering consultant with experience in a range of government building types, Greenview brought a practical understanding of the requirements for publicly funded civic infrastructure to this project.
The challenge
Cultural and arts facilities occupy a distinct position in the hierarchy of public buildings. They need to be welcoming, functional and often architecturally distinctive, while meeting the stringent building code and energy efficiency requirements applicable to publicly funded facilities. NCC Section J compliance for a building of this type requires careful attention to the mechanical and electrical systems, which must deliver a comfortable environment for gallery visitors and event attendees while performing efficiently over the life of the building.
Greenview's approach
All engineering disciplines were developed within Greenview's coordinated REVIT model, enabling the team to work alongside BKA Architecture as the building's design evolved. This Building Information Modelling (BIM) approach is particularly valuable for civic buildings, where the architectural expression is important and services routes need to be resolved without compromising the design intent. The Section J report was prepared in parallel with the building services design to ensure compliance was integrated from the outset.
Services delivered
