Overview

Greenview was engaged by Lewis Land Group to provide multi-discipline engineering services for the upgrade and expansion of the Camden Valley Inn, a heritage hospitality venue at Remembrance Drive, Cawdor. The project involved works to the existing heritage structure alongside the delivery of new outdoor dining and function areas, creating a substantially enhanced hospitality offering at one of the region's landmark pubs.

The Camden Valley Inn sits in the rural fringe of metropolitan Sydney, in the Camden area south-west of the city. The project's heritage context and combination of existing refurbishment with significant new additions made it one of the more complex hospitality engineering projects in the Greenview portfolio.

The challenge

Projects of this type present an interesting engineering challenge: working simultaneously on the constraints of an existing heritage building and the relative freedom of new construction on the same site. Services in the heritage areas must integrate with an existing fabric that was never designed with contemporary building services in mind. New outdoor areas require civil works, stormwater management and building services that meet current NCC standards. Both conditions need to be coordinated as a single project to ensure the two parts of the development work together as a coherent whole.

Greenview's approach

Greenview's coordinated REVIT model was used across all five disciplines, enabling the team to manage the interface between the heritage building works and the new construction. This Building Information Modelling (BIM) approach is particularly valuable in complex mixed-condition projects, where design decisions in one discipline can have significant implications for another. Lewis Land Group and the project's design team were provided with a single coordinated engineering package across the full scope.
